During your first two years, you will complete foundational coursework in Technology Education, gaining hands-on experience in one or more skilled trades pathways or certificate programs.

Your general education courses in communication, mathematics and sciences support career readiness and future teaching success. These years build technical expertise and industry knowledge, preparing you for advanced coursework in education.

In your third year, you will transition into teacher preparation coursework, including: 

• Strategies for teaching and learning
• Curriculum design 
• Classroom management
• How to meet the needs of all students

A pre-residency field experience provides early exposure to teaching in a secondary (grades 7-12) Technology Education classroom, allowing you to apply the educational theories from your coursework in real-world settings.

During your final year, you will complete a full-time residency, serving as the lead teacher in a Technology Education classroom under the mentorship of an experienced educator.

This immersive experience will refine your instructional skills, assessment strategies, and classroom leadership, ensuring you are prepared for Colorado teacher licensure and a successful career as a Technology Education teacher. 

Your hands-on experience will include the following: 
 

Skilled Trades Pathways & Certification
You will gain hands-on expertise by completing skilled trades pathways or certificate programs, such as welding, construction or automotive technology. This industry experience ensures that you understand the technical skills you will later teach, bridging the gap between industry standards and classroom instruction.

Pre-Residency Field Experience
Before student teaching, you will spend time observing, assisting, and teaching mini-lessons in secondary Technology Education classrooms. This experience builds confidence, provides exposure to classroom dynamics, and allows you to connect educational theory from your coursework to real-world teaching.

Full-Time Residency
You’ll serve as a lead teacher in a supervised residency during your final year. This immersive experience refines your instructional strategies, assessment practices, and classroom management, ensuring you are ready for full-time teaching upon graduation.

From pre-residency through full-time residency, you will be paired with experienced mentor teachers who provide ongoing guidance, feedback and support. These mentors are trained and coached to effectively develop future educators, ensuring you receive high-quality, hands-on professional development.

Faculty members also provide continuous coaching, helping you refine your teaching strategies and leadership skills.

Morgan Community College gathers feedback from school administrators, teachers, parents, students and community members to refine the program and align it with the evolving needs of rural schools and workforce demands. 

• An advisory committee that includes educators, Workforce Centers, MCC faculty, graduates, and students provides ongoing curriculum and policy guidance.
