You will take 10 Online Courses totaling 30 credits. Courses are online and meet anywhere between two times per course and weekly, depending on the course. ​

In addition to your coursework, will participate in the following:

• Weekly Resident Seminars to engage with your Residency Cohort.
• Elementary Literacy and Assessment Workshops with a K-3 Literacy Specialist.
• Additional Professional Development Opportunities such as field trips, in-services, workshops, professional resource nights, summer conferences and more!
• Student-Professor Study Group in Reggio Emilia, Italy for an international conference that consists of presentations, school tours and networking opportunities. Study Group expenses (flights, hotel, shuttle, and a food stipend) are included in tuition for the Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program.
• Residency Practicum with a paid practicum. You will work alongside a mentor for 28- 32 hours per week, attend all school events, and meet with resident advisors and additional mentors.  

The above information describes the residency pathway through the Teacher Education Program. There is an additional pathway, Teacher of Record pathway, for those in an established lead or sole teaching position or who obtain an ECE teaching position in the state of Colorado.

This program weaves together practice and theory. As a Resident Teacher, you’ll teach in a classroom while engaging in coursework. Coursework is designed so that you can take ideas from readings, discussions and assignments, and apply your learning to your daily experience as a classroom teacher. In this way, what you learn at a theoretical level can inform your practice, and what you learn from your practice informs your theory about teaching and learning.

This program cultivates teachers who are primarily researchers. As a researcher, teachers are constantly seeking to learn more and develop deeper understandings of their students. You’ll develop a strong practice of observation, documentation and assessment that allows you to know students on a deep level. From this knowledge, you can create a contextual curriculum and learning environments that reflect students’ unique cognitive, social and emotional needs.

This program values a residency model. Resident Teachers work alongside a mentor teacher during the school year as well as engage with a Program Coach. Both will provide ongoing feedback and opportunities for goal-setting. After the program, you’ll get to join an active and tight-knit alumni community. Program administrators stay connected to our program alumni and reach out with a variety of professional development and employment opportunities, as well ongoing, general support.
