Through my Teach@Mines classes, I was paired with a mentor teacher: an outstanding high school computer science/science teacher. Working with him was an incredibly valuable experience and I continue to use skills and strategies I learned during my observations in my classroom today.

Program Info

A Bachelor of Science in Design Engineering with a focus on STEM Education from the Colorado School of Mines offers more than just an engineering degree. It provides you with a deep understanding of integrative design, allowing you to combine engineering problem-solving, creative design, and social sciences in the classroom. Alternatively, you can choose another major at Mines and pursue a teaching minor, which also leads to teacher licensure.

The Teach@Mines flexible programs combine the strengths of Mines' technical degrees with courses in science education. The required courses for teacher licensure, whether through the STEM education major or minor, are designed to be completed in two years. Graduates with a BS in Design Engineering are not only prepared for traditional engineering and technology careers but are also uniquely equipped to bring technical design expertise to classrooms, both in the U.S. and globally. You will be an excellent candidate for STEM teaching positions. Your opportunities are endless!
