You will complete or be nearing completion of the Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Teacher Education to be eligible to apply to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Elementary Education. 

During your third year, you will take eight education preparation courses, which will total 30 credit hours. You will also participate in 180 field experience hours. 

During your fourth year, you will complete six credit hours of coursework in the fall semester, then three credit hours of coursework in the spring semester. 
You will also complete a full year of student teaching starting in the fall, which will fulfill the Colorado Department of Education field hour requirement. 
 

Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) believes hands-on training is critical to ensure you are prepared to enter and stay in teaching. PPSC has incorporated these experiences into each phase of the program:

• Starting your freshman year, you will visit classrooms of master teachers to see how education theories transfer to the classroom.
• During your junior and senior years, you will benefit from at least 900 hours of clinical/field experiences to practice small-group and whole-classroom instruction.

During your third and fourth years, you will receive streamlined coaching from a mentor teacher as well as a faculty advisor who is invested in your education. The mentor teacher and faculty coach will provide meaningful feedback based on the teacher quality standards.

The Teacher Academy Training Program offers practical experience that helps develop educators from the local community.
