Why I Teach
I chose to become a special education teacher after working with disabled adults who did not have any educational opportunities and were unable to read. I couldn’t believe that they grew up in a world without educational protection and little to no options. During my very first classroom experience, I realized there is no greater reward or responsibility in teaching students to grow the skills they need to thrive. As a reading specialist, I make a direct impact upon a child’s life trajectory once they become a reader. I empower my students with the tools they need to thrive.
