Poudre School District invests in its teachers. I feel supported in every aspect of my career, from ongoing professional development to teacher efficacy in my classroom and department. Our district's motto is "Educate Every Child, Every Day." Why I Teach

I teach because I know it only takes one teacher in a student's academic career to instill a lifelong desire to continue growing as a learner and compassionate human being. Teaching Language Arts is a blessing. We read and write and discuss topics that span the course of human history and experience. More importantly, for me, is to be a model for treating others with dignity and respect. When students write or visit me and mention something they learned in my class has helped them along their journey, I am reminded that teaching is more than a job for me; it is, in fact, a path in life that has an immediate impact on future generations.

        About Poudre School District

        • About

Poudre School District (PSD) is the ninth largest school district in Colorado including 50 schools serving more than 30,000 students by nearly 5,000 staff with one collective mission: to educate every child, every day. We exist to support and inspire every child to think, learn, care, graduate and be prepared to be successful in a changing world.

Our district proudly supports 1,856 square miles in northern Colorado, including Fort Collins, Laporte, Timnath, Wellington, Red Feather, Livermore, Stove Prairie and parts of Windsor. Nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and alongside the banks of the Cache La Poudre River, Fort Collins is located 5,000 feet above sea level and has a moderate climate with an average of 300 days of sunshine and 14.5 inches of precipitation a year. Fort Collins is recognized as the fourteenth best place to live nationwide (Livability) and the number one place in Colorado to raise a family (Business Week).

PSD is proud to be a top-performing district, recognized at the state and national level for student, staff and overall district excellence. Our students are selected as Boettcher, Daniels Fund, National Merit, National Hispanic and Presidential Scholars. They are state champions in areas such as science, history, ocean and knowledge bowls, as well as in speech, debate, theatre and music. Our student athletes have become state champions in cross country, track and field, tennis, wrestling, swimming, baseball and gymnastics. Each of our schools has been recognized by the state for either student growth on standardized tests or performance and achievement.

        • For Students

Poudre School District's high school Teacher Cadet Program is one of 37 Teacher Cadet programs state-wide.  It is an innovative, curriculum-based college level course designed to attract talented young people to the education profession through a challenging introduction to teaching. The Teacher Cadet Program seeks to provide high school students insights into the nature of teaching, the problems of schooling, and the critical issues affecting the quality of education in America's schools. Through a combination of classroom learning and field experience "student teaching", students gain a better understanding of their futures as a teacher.

Teacher Cadet level 1 is currently offered at both Rocky Mountain High School and Fossil Ridge High School.  At Rocky, students receive concurrent enrollment from Front Range Community College (4 credits) upon successful completion of the course.  Additionally, students can enroll in Teacher Cadet level 2 to explore the field of education, complete 100 more hours in field placement, receive 10 credits of senior-level English, and receive 4 more concurrent enrollment credits through FRCC.
