Can you see yourself in the classroom? Us too.

This is how we do it.

Like other high-skilled professions, there are key steps to becoming a teacher. If you’re not ready for these steps yet, no worries. Head over to Explore Teaching to start your research. ?

  1. Know where you’re headed.

To become a teacher or a special services provider (like a school counselor), you’ll need to get licensed, so review licensure requirements up front. For 1-on-1 support, check out our free coaching options.

  2. Choose the program that fits you best.

When it comes time to choose a program that will help you get licensed to teach, use our criteria to compare options. It’s easier to find a match when you know what to look for.

  3. Apply to a program with confidence.

To make it easier to keep track of next steps and deadlines, be sure to create an application checklist. (You get fee reimbursements once you’ve submitted.) Read our guides for info on program eligibility and application best practices if you’re stuck.

  4. Fund your teacher preparation.

Is affordability top of mind? You’ve got options when it comes to funding your training, from work study to loans to scholarships. For the nitty-gritty details, check out our Finances guide.
